After changing the firmware, the Uno is no longer recognized in the Arduino IDE. Make sure the sketch is uploaded to the Uno.These are then recognized in your favourite DAW or VST (like Guitar Rig or Amplitube) and can be programmed to do all sorts of stuff.Īfter uploading the sketch, it is time to change the firmware of the Arduino Uno. Using the MIDI.h library I programmed the Wah pedal, the two foot switches and the three potentiometers and the on-off switch to send MIDI control change messages.

The first thing you have to do is upload the sketch (see code section). Many cheap Arduino knockoffs that pretend to be an Uno or Mega also might not work, since they tend to use the (slighly) cheaper FTDI chips. Leonardo), nor older boards that use an FTDI chip as USB controller (e.g. HIDUINO takes advantage of Arduino boards where a second AVR chip is used as the USB controller, so it won't work with single chip variants (e.g. Instead, HIDUINO provides a true USB-MIDI device for plug-and-play compatibility on Windows, OSX, and Linux - just like a commercial MIDI controller.

HIDUINO does not use middleware software to convert serial messages through a MIDI loopback port (like LoopBe1 on Windows or IAC on OSX).

From their GitHub page: The HIDUINO project provides firmwares, documentation, and example code for building a class-compliant USB-MIDI device from an Arduino UNO or Mega 2560. I think the hardest part is flashing the firmware of the Arduino Uno to change the USB connection from a serial communications port to a sound, video and game controller in Windows (I have not tested this on a Mac). This Arduino-based MIDI controller cost me around 40 Euro, including a seperate Wah pedal and foot switch. After some online digging I found out that it's relatively easy to build one yourself for a fraction of the cost. When I was looking to buy a MIDI stomp box with a Wah pedal, I was a little taken aback by the price. I also want to get this working to let me capture the wah controller etc too.MIDI controller with a Wah pedal and a lead foot switch Alternatively, I could record the guitar part in sections or add the effect changes after the raw track is down but there is something special about having the live control during the recording that I would like to keep if possible. I know I could simply record the controller info at the appropriate points prior to laying down the guitar part and do away with the foot pedal altogether. The main thing I want to do is simply kick in the distortion or delay at various points of the song during a take. I am not running Main Stage, just GR5 as a plug in on a Channel Strip. This is the way I had to set it to get GR5 to work in stand alone mode.
#Guitar rig 5 foot controller manual
The foot controlled runs something called Keyboard Mode which the manual describes as "Keyboard mode functions when a footswitch is released, by automatically sending Note Off commands to turn off any notes that were turned on when the footswitch was pressed." Basically it makes the switch non latching if I am interpreting it correctly. Pedal B is the same except note value 121 and so on. e.g Pedal A, Midi Channel 1, Note On, Note 120, Velocity 64. The way I have set it up at the moment is with each pedal assigned to a note sending a note on command when pressed.

#Guitar rig 5 foot controller Patch
The pedal wants to send patch change info but I don't actually want to change who patches just turn individual effects on an off within a single patch. This is a really old pedal from the days when all the switching of patches was stored in the pedal instead of the software. It took me a while to get the foot controller to work with GR5 in stand alone mode too. When I then press a pedal on the foot controller it also registers the pedal details but nothing happens when I try to go live and actually change a effect. This registers in the controller details with the name of the function I want to control e.g Boost on/off. When I toggle the on/off button on a GR5 distortion pedal for example.

I have tried setting up the controller using Learn mode but it isn't working.

However, I can't get anything to happen when I run GR5 as a plugin on Logic Pro 9. After hours of trial and error, I have finally managed to get it to work properly when using Guitar Rig 5 in stand alone mode. I have been trying to use an old Lake Butler RFC-1 Midi Mitigator pedal to control various effect on/off commands and expression pedal controller info (wah, volume etc) but I am having several issues with it.
